2. Pack your essentials

We have an exciting weekend ahead! Pack these items to ensure you make the most of it.

Saturday:

  • Climbing gear (helmet recommended)
  • Sun lotion
  • Cash for the market
  • Water for the day
  • Camera
  • Hammock if you have one!
  • Picnic blanket

Sunday

  • Comfortable hiking shoes
  • Sun lotion
  • Swimsuit
  • Hat/cap
  • Climbing shoes
  • Lunch/snacks
  • Camera

3. Get there without a hassle

In partnership with the Boven Community Policing Forum, we have arranged secure parking at the local soccer field for both Saturday and Sunday. Follow the signs from the main road or use the GPS point below. Once parked, continue to follow the signs on foot to our main event!

For people staying at the upper valley, there is the option to park at Acra and use the approach down the valley to the Coven Crag and then follow our trail markers from the Coven to the main event. Note that the approach from Acra is marked with cairns and might be unclear for people who are unfamiliar with the area.

4. Familiarise yourself with the plan

On Saturday morning, join us from 9h00 at the Ebony and Ivory Towers crag close to Boven town (yellow star). From there, it is a short walk to the Flying is Fun crag and the Coven. Between these crags, there is always something shady to climb so prepare for a full day of fun!

A market will be set up at the base of the crag from 10h00 to 14h00, with seating, gazebos for shade, and local vendors selling food and beverages – and possibly some other local items. Don’t forget to bring your cash and support local!

There will also be live music, a slackline station, top-rope area for beginners, and a hammock village so there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

Climb until you can’t no more, and then rest up for our hike on Sunday morning! If you are looking for dinner options, check out Aloes Country Inn or Rocky Drift Nature Reserve in Waterval Onder (booking essential).

On Sunday, meet at 7h30 at the same spot as the previous day’s market. We will be guided by our local climbers on an 8.5 km circular hike through the valley, passing four majestic waterfalls and ending with a big swing at Seven Arches. There are places to swim and deep-water solo so bring your swimsuit, towel and climbing shoes! Note, the hike is intermediate and technical at times so engage your 4×4 mode.

For people needing to get back early, a guide will be taking a group back to the start for a 13h30 finish. Those with time to spare can take a more leisurely pace with the second group.
